What's the Difference?

I recently read a haunting story called The Book Thief.

What Hitler and the German people accomplished in about 5 years, has taken Americans a little longer. Of course the murder of 6 million Jews didn’t just happen overnight, or all at once. There were the years leading up to the Holocaust where the children going to school were indoctrinated and brainwashed, so that when they grew up they would swallow the idea that destroyed millions of lives.

Young German children who were taught the wrong things grew up and their minds were darkened. Hitler didn’t succeed in his plan by himself - he had the majority of the nation backing him up. He couldn’t have done it alone.

In America, no individual is doing it alone either. Children are growing up being taught lies in school. “He has given them over…”

“Professing to be wise, they became fools.”

Enough children have made it through the system and become adults that they are accomplishing the same things (in a different way) that people in Germany managed to do.

The 6 million were murdered in a short period of 5 years. It has taken Americans longer, but they have murdered over 53 million. Or should I say we have?

Think about it. What is the real difference?

The Jews were killed in horrible ways? Yes, I am sure they suffered much more than our babies have. After all, they had to see family members and loved ones suffer and die right along with them. Our babies didn’t have to go through that. But they are all souls and they were all killed. For some it was painful; physically and emotionally. Perhaps for some it wasn’t.

But what is the real difference?

In our capital, we have a museum dedicated to the Holocaust; it’s victims and survivors. Why do we have this? So we can remember. So we will never stand by and let it be repeated.

But isn’t that exactly what we are doing? How many blinded people go to look at history in the Holocaust museum in D.C. each year?

And what do they think about it when they have seen the evidence?

Sad. Wrong. Heartbreaking. Should never be repeated.

But it is.

If that was wrong, why isn’t this? What’s the difference?
