Ngalipe Catering Services

Part II

So we finished all that work Friday night, watched a movie and went to bed. Saturday morning (the day of the wedding) we woke up and discovered to a terrible sight. To our great horror, the two real wedding cakes we had stored in the oven overnight to keep safe from the ants, had been stomped on by a rat. Actually, the rat (that apparently lives in our oven) had done more than leave footprints and dirt all over the cakes. There was a big hole in one of them where he’d feasted all night. What to do NOW??

Laura and Sarah look over the damage. We thought we were finished, but our work is far from done!

We cut up the rat attacked cake, scraped off the icing and sat down for a breakfast of cake and coffee. Our spirits needed it, I think. Papa Serge said we were celebrating my wedding in advance. Not sure why it was MINE, but wedding cake for breakfast was new, and not bad either.
What we didn't eat, the Ngalipe kids downed a few hours later.

Back at the other house, we got to work making two more cakes. The chocolate cake's rat damage was minimal, so it was repaired without too much trouble, but the yellow cake had to be made completely over.

Finally, the new cake was finished, complete with the "God Bless Fredy and Tati" lettered in pink on the top. This was my first time ever making wedding cakes, and I did most of the work on the chocolate cake, and then the second yellow cake, so I was pretty happy to have them finally done and look good. They weren't as nice as they could have been if made in America, but still... This is Africa after all, and we do our best. Papa Serge, Guylvi and I pose with the two cakes. (Not sure what's going on with the m&ms here).

As I finished up the dishes, the wedding parade went by on the road. We ran out to watch. Thankfully, we had finished everything, packed the rest of the cakes that were already cut into pieces, and had some time to spare.
