May I find His joy even in my sorrow and His life in my death. To God be the glory!

Working in the garden...

A long walk along the beach to the garden...

Mostly spent time hoeing and chopping up weeds in the pondu field

The Garden Grows

You might be tired of hearing about my garden at this point, but since I've invested a lot of work in it (mostly weeding and hauling water) I will be boring and give you another update in photos...

Friday, 20 April 2018

Dr. Ryck and his wife Stephanie have been with us for the last couple of months and we are sad to see them go. They will be leaving us tomorrow.

Stephanie did a huge amount of work organizing medicines, cleaning and arranging the medication storage rooms and the supply room. She also spent time making kids happy in Pediatrics, and helping Mama Sarah at the Kimia Center.
Ryck spent most of his time seeing patients of course, and filling in as a substitute medical director. He helped boost staff morale and did a lot of continuing education for the medical workers.

I enjoyed getting to know them. We had some good times hanging out and talking over coffee and going swimming.

Life goes on.

I am always thankful for the slower days - and the busy days go by incredibly fast. I still find myself in the office more often than I would like, sometimes in more trouble than I would like, but it works out. Most of the time.

My garden is doing well - despite the chickens’ best efforts at scratching up all the corn I’ve planted. Some of the tomato plants have perished, but the cucumbers, squash, beans, corn and snow peas are thriving.

The animal collection continues to expand. We got the fence repaired to contain the chickens. In the dark of night Mama Anne and I took the chickens by surprise and clipped their wings. No more flying over the tall fence. Sorry chickens. Good news for the garden.

In the evenings when I’m exhausted, and half my livestock are missing, I’m very thankful for energetic little boys who will run around the 17acre compound with flashlights looking for missing animals.

As for the babies... #82 yesterday.

That was then...2013

This is now...2018

One more little wild boy, a miscarriage and another pregnancy later...We're still hanging out, laughing together and enjoying a friendship that has lasted over the past 5 years.

Generator Trouble

Lately we have been having serious generator problems. We have two large generators and one of them has been behaving very badly lately. This is not good for the hospital, as these generators and our solar panels are the only source of power/electricity for the hospital. When the power goes out patients who need to be on oxygen sometimes die. Sometimes we do deliveries in the dark, just with a flashlight. Of course this is never ideal.

Please pray for our generators to work so we can have light and oxygen.

Or another option: if you know people who can repair things like that, send them our way!!!

Sunday, 8 April 2018

On Easter Sunday we took a trip to the river. It was beautiful and a good reminder that all is not death and dirt and ugliness here. Some days it feels like that - but other days we can enjoy the peaceful beauty of God's creation.

One of the ducks hatched out a baby! We were pretty excited.

Sadly the duckling only lived about two days... despite excellent care.

Jungle day

Another trip to the village of Bokata

There is a man way up there (and he climbed up that vine, believe it or not)
